DP2MID (Markers to MIDI)

Features

  • Export markers from Digital Performer to other sequencers (Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic Pro, etc.) via a generated MIDI file.
  • DP2MID generates a clean MIDI file with only the markers. The MIDI file can then be imported into your favorite DAW.

Confirmed compatible with markers exported from:

  • Digital Performer 7.0 through 7.2
  • Digital Performer 6.x
  • Digital Peformer 5.x
  • Untested with DP 4 or earlier

Support

  • Program is freeware. As such, use it at your own risk, as the author cannot be responsible for problems that may arise. All reasonable precautions have been taken to debug and assess any potential problems. Always save your data before importing a MIDI file generated by DP2MID, as it may take a bit of experimentation before you find the right settings and circumstances that work reliably.
  • I can't offer personal support for this program, but feel free to use the contact form to submit feature requests or comments. I will start a FAQ section on this page with pertinent information on features and troubleshooting if needs be.
  • Please do not modify and redistribute. Please don't redistribute the zip file, instead please link to this web page.
  • Read the documentation in the ZIP file for an explanation of how to use the utility.
  • Requires the MSVB6 Runtimes to be installed.
  • No version for Mac OS yet, sorry. If you have an Intel Mac you can run DP2MID on VMware, Parallels, or other virtualization software. After it is out of beta, I may pursue an OS X port.

Possible Features For Future Releases

  • Screenshots & tutorial on this page
  • Additional frame-rates
  • Import from exported MIDI from DP
  • Export to additional formats, such as CSV, Excel, Pro Tools markers in *.ptf, etc.
  • More streamlined user interface
  • Batch and/or command-line support
  • Fully native Mac OS X port, possibly Universal Binary

Known Issues

  • Resulting timecodes may not be absolutely precise. They may vary by one or two frames on import to your sequencer.
  • Importing markers from the converted MIDI into your sequencer may yield undesirable results if the destination sequence already has multiple tempo changes. This utility depends on a static tempo for the entire sequence in order to import your markers to the correct timecode locations.
